The mayor of Chicago announced that people arriving from Wisconsin to Chicago will now be required to self quarantine 14 days. The mayor said anyone entering Chicago after spending more than a day in Wisconsin will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days because of the number of coronavirus cases in the state.
Wisconsin becomes the 19th state from which travelers are being told to self-quarantine due to coronavirus concerns when entering Chicago.

The order requires people who have spent more than 24 hours in high-risk states to self-quarantine for 14 days after entering Chicago. States already on the list include Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, Alabama, Nevada, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Idaho, California, Arkansas, Utah, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa.

The mayor’s office said any state with an average of more than 15 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 resident population over a rolling seven-day period goes on the list.

Exceptions to the self-quarantine order include essential workers, those coming here for medical treatment and those for whom “self-quarantine is not possible, practicable or advisable.” The order also does not apply to people who are at the airport for a connecting flight, or are driving through the city on their way elsewhere.

Also exempted, according to the mayor’s office are sports teams, the Milwaukee Brewers were in town to play the Chicago Cubs over the weekend along with their fans.

Nobody has been fined yet for failing to follow the order, and the Chicago mayor on Monday said she’s trying to “educate” people into compliance.

How can you enforce an order like this when you are not an island with control of who arrives and who leaves? People do not follow rules they don’t believe in, without enforcement, people will view measures like this as a meaningless publicity stunt!
