A 10-year-old boy has died after reportedly falling into a hole on a building site in Glasgow.

The boy died in hospital after suffering serious injuries on the site near Glenkirk Drive in Drumchapel.

Emergency services were called to the site Drumchapel, near Glenkirk Drive just before 10pm on Thursday 16 July 2020.

Police Scotland confirmed in a statement: “Emergency services attended, and the 10-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

“Police enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident; however, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The UK Health and Safety Executive was informed and the HSE has confirmed it is aware of the incident and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Work was being carried out on the site by agencies including Scottish Water to address flooding problems from the Garscadden Burn.

Building sites are seen by children as a adventure and despite the majority of sites being secured by gates and fencing, children will always find a way to enter.

In this tragic case you would have to ask why was a 10 year boy allowed out on the street which allowed him to be on the building site at 10pm at night with other children!
